The regular season is quickly winding down, but thankfully we have another huge Saturday of College Football and a lobby full of games on DraftKings to keep us busy. There's a ton of ground to cover with 25 games spread across two main slates and while that can seem a bit overwhelming at first glance, having a clear plan of attack can get you through your research in no time and on your way to building some successful lineups.

CFB Recap Week 12: SEC Conference

Our conference recaps are a great place to begin preparing for the week ahead in College Football as we take an in depth look at the week that was and dig into the situations that bear monitoring. Who's hot? Who's not? What are some situations to key in on or avoid? You can find the answers inside this week's recaps. Here's a sneak peek at our analysis of one of Week 12's games in the SEC:

MISSISSIPPI STATE @ ARKANSAS

Game Recap: It was a wild back and forth affair that saw stellar play from quarterbacks Dak Prescott and Brandon Allen, 14 total touchdowns and a walk-off win on a blocked field goal as Mississippi State prevailed 51-50.  

Key Players: Mississippi State – We’re running out of superlatives to describe the play of Dak Prescott, who was simply amazing again on Saturday. Prescott threw for 508 yards, five touchdowns and a pick and added on 46 rushing yards and two scores on the ground for good measure. As a whole, the Bulldogs had 631 total yards of offense. Brandon Holloway chipped in 164 combined yards and a score. Fred Ross and DeRunnya Wilson hauled in 10 passes apiece, with Ross contributing 154 yards and two touchdowns while Wilson had 93 yards and found the end zone once.  

Arkansas: The Razorbacks leaned heavily on the passing game and Brandon Allen delivered – and then some. Allen completed 30 of 43 for 406 yards, seven touchdowns and no picks. The running was mostly held in check in Saturday’s shootout as the team combined for 73 yards on the ground, mainly thanks to Alex Collins, who carried the ball 19 times for 53 yards. Tight end Hunter Henry led all receivers with seven catches for 129 yards and two scores, Drew Morgan chipped in 7/84/1 and Jared Cornelius contributed 5/81/1. Junior tight end Jeremy Sprinkle broke out with six catches for 47 yards and three touchdowns.  

Key Injuries: None.

Players to Watch: Mississippi State – The Bulldogs welcome Ole Miss to town for the Egg Bowl and what should be a highly-entertaining game this week. Prescott remains at the top of the short list for DFS and will likely be a popular target for what could be a high-scoring affair. Holloway should be considered as a GPP flier, while Wilson and Ross will work nicely as a stack with Prescott, with a nod to Wilson as the top receiving option.

Arkansas: The Razorbacks have a tough matchup with Missouri this Friday. Although Missouri can be tough defensively, it’s hard to disregard Allen with the way he has played this season. Collins is a little easier to take a pass on but still deserves consideration, although there will likely be more affordable options in better spots. Henry and Morgan remain the top options for a stack with Allen, but monitor the news on Morgan as he appeared to be playing in pain this past week.

This past Saturday, we saw two big changes at the quarterback position in the SEC Conference. One produced stellar returns both on the field and for DFS purposes. Freshman sensation Kyler Murray showed off why he was so highly-touted while leading Texas A&M to victory and provided a stellar return of 37.52 points on DraftKings. Faton Bauta's chance at the helm for Georgia did not go as swimmingly as he was picked off four times in a losing effort. 5 STAR MATCHUPS

Baylor Run and Pass- Baylor is leading the nation with both 7.1 yards per rush and 12.2 yards per attempt. Iowa State's defense ranks in the bottom half nationally against both the run and the pass. With a team total of 58.5, Baylor should approach season averages of 336 rushing yards and 371 passing yards. The key to whether Baylor's offensive stars are a great play or merely a good play will be whether Iowa State's offense can do enough to force Baylor to play it's starters into the fourth quarter. 

Oklahoma State Pass- The Cowboys are averaging 308 passing yards per game and face a horrible Kansas defense allowing 311 passing yards per game. Oklahoma State could pass for 400+ yards if motivated to do so or if Kansas' offense is able to keep the game competitive into the second half. Neither of those things are guaranteed, so there is some risk in investing too heavily in the Cowboys passing offense. But also real upside as this is a major mismatch on paper and the team total points to a big day for the Oklahoma State offense.

Oklahoma Pass- The Sooners have been incredibly efficient throwing the ball (9.7 yards per attempt) and have averaged 330 passing yards per game. Tech is giving up 285 passing yards per game and a healthy 8.1 per attempt. Expect Oklahoma to pick up big chunks of yardage through the air and to exceed their season average with 350+ passing yards. Baker Mayfield and Sterling Sharpe are very nice options Saturday.

Washington State Pass- The Cougars are underdogs after a pair of impressive victories. Washington State is the most pass-heavy team in the nation (73% pass and 57 passing attempts per game) and is averaging 417 passing yards per game. Arizona is vulnerable against the pass (allowing 7 yards per attempt) and the game script points to the Cougars having to be aggressive through the air. Luke Falk, Dom Williams, and Gabe Marks should have big games. 

Arizona Run- The Wildcats rank 8th nationally with 5.8 yards per rush and are also 8th nationally with 266 rushing yards per game. Washington State is giving up a healthy 5.0 yards per rush and over 200 yards rushing per game. With a team total of ~40, expect Arizona to put up big numbers on the ground. 

Houston Run- The Cougars are 6th nationally with 282 rushing yards per game. With dual threat quarterback Greg Ward Jr. and tough back Kenneth Farrow, Houston presents matchup problems for all opposing rush defenses. UCF is a slightly below average rush defense and does not have the talent to take away both Ward and Farrow, so at least one of the two should have a big game on the ground on Saturday.

Toledo Run- The Rockets are averaging 205 rushing yards per game and face a horrible UMass defense that has allowed 231 rushing yards per game. As two touchdown favorites, the game script should be favorable for Toledo to rack up 250+ rushing yards with the duo of Kareem Hunt and Terry Swanson leading the way.

4 STAR MATCHUPS

Bowling Green Pass- Bowling Green leads the nation with 432 passing yards per game. Kent State has a strong defense that should be able to hold the Falcons below their season averages, but BGSU's high-paced offense and deep, talented crew of pass catchers are always going to get theirs. Matt Johnson is always a top quarterback options as is Roger Lewis at wide receiver.

Oklahoma Run- Oklahoma's offense has been very balanced with a 53-47 run-to-pass ratio. However, the Sooners are averaging a surprisingly poor 3.8 yards per rush. Texas Tech hasn't stopped anyone and have given up 5.6 yards per rush and a ridiculous 255 rushing yards per game. If Oklahoma can build an early lead through the air as expected, they should have success with Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon on the ground if they try to slow it down a little and play keep away from the high-octane Red Raiders offense. With a huge 44 point team total, a few rushing touchdowns are likely as well.

Michigan State Run and Pass- Can the Spartans avoid a hangover after their stunning upset over Michigan? If they can, the offense should have a field day against a weak Indiana defense that just gave up 55 points to Rutgers last week. Michigan State would probably like to just pound the ball on the ground with LJ Scott; against an Indiana defense giving up 4.8 yards per rush, they should have some success doing just that. However, Indiana has shown that as underdogs they like to load the box and force teams to beat them through the air. The Spartans are averaging 8.3 yards per attempt and against an incredibly young Indiana secondary, Connor Cook and Aaron Burbridge should be able to do whatever they want. 

Alabama Run- Tennessee is just an average rushing defense. Alabama has been very successfull lately running the ball with Derrick Henry and rank in the top 30 nationally with 199 rushing yards per game. As more than two touchdown favorites, Alabama's offense could become especially run-heavy if they can build an early lead.

Arkansas Run- Auburn’s giving up a ridiculous 5.5 yards per carry and 205 rushing yards per game. Arkansas has ran the ball well this season with 4.8 yards per carry in a run-heavy offense (55% run ratio). Despite the lower team total, this is a sneaky good matchup and Alex Collins should have a big game.

North Carolina Run- The Tar Heels have been a force on the ground. UNC ranks 3rd nationally with 6.8 yards per rush. Virginia is giving up 4.8 yards per rushing attempt and are unlikely to slow dual-threat quarterback Marqise Williams and running backs Elijah Hood and  T.J. Logan. With so many likely focused upon the Greg Ward Jr., Seth Russell and some of the other big-name quarterbacks, Williams makes an especially intriguing GPP option.

College Football Weather Watch

We're starting to see some tangible impact on the college football lines with Hurricane Joaquin. The good news is that it no longer looks as though Joaquin is going to make landfall on the United States East Coast. However, even if the Hurricane does indeed stay out to sea as current models suggest, the East Coast is still expected to see a major impact with wet and windy conditions. The areas that will catch the biggest brunt of the storm are Virginia and the Carolinas, but the impact will be felt beyond just that narrow stretch of the country.

The Louisville at North Carolina State game is an example of the impact weather can have on expected scoring. The opening line had a game total of 54 but that crept lower and lower all week before hitting 46 and now rebounding just slightly to 47. The negative impact of the weather on overall scoring in this game might not be a deciding factor in lineup decisions however as this game's top options are arguably dual threat QB Lamar Jackson ($5,700) of Louisville and NC State running back Matthew Dayes ($5,300) and the game script on a wet and windy day doesn't terribly hurt their outlooks.

Pittsburgh at Virginia Tech has also seen a major downward shift in game total, from an opening line of 52 down to 46. Virginia Tech's quarterback Brendan Motley ($5,700) stacked with his top WR, Isaiah Ford ($4,500) seemed like a nice inexpensive GPP stack with upside. However, the forecast with a 70% chance of rain and 15-25 MPH winds really puts a damper on excitement about passing success in this game.

It's not just the coastal locations that are being impacted and an example can be found in the weekend's highest profile game, Alabama at Georgia. The opening line had a game total of 55 which has now fallen to 51. Alabama WR Ardarius Stewart ($4,200) was an intriguing option with Alabama expected to pass more. However, with a 60% chance of rain and gusting winds expected to be 12-22MPH, the passing game projections have to be adjusted downward somewhat.

Weather is always a factor and should at the very least serve as a tie-breaker between close roster decisions. Be sure to keep a close eye on the latest forecasts (see here) tomorrow morning when setting and adjusting your lineups because a wet, windy day along much of the eastern half of the country could have a tangible outcome on the games.

Week 4 of the College Football season is at hand and we're getting ready for another Saturday of wall-to-wall games. For DFS purposes, we have 26 games to focus on spread across two main slates. College Football DFS gets a little easier to manage as the season moves along, but 26 games is still a huge amount of games to look into.
